The where do you get your protein from is one of those stupid questions I have to deal with every week as a vegan fitness coach.
And once I explain in simple terms the amount of protein we need to be healthy is far lower that we are lead to believe by government brain washed nutritionists, and how just by eating a NATURAL REAL FOOD plant based diet you will never have to worry about getting enough protein, the subject always then turns to the ethical side of the unnecessary suffering and killing of millions of animals. But that's another blog.
Keep in mind that I train with clients around 30 hours per week in combat self-defence, cardio kickboxing, trail running and inline skating. I'm never sick and never injured to the point of ever missing a day at work, and I'm still the only person in Cyprus to run from Limassol to Larnaca airport and back without stopping (100km in 15:40) in the Cyprus extreme heat of May.
But don't take my word for it, Google famous vegan athletes, the results will surprise you.
So anyway, where do I get my protein from?
- Fresh locally grown vegetables
- Nuts and seeds
- Berries, dried and fresh
- Freshly cooked beans, but to be honest, I rarely have the time for that. So high quality canned beans and chick peas is a much loved high protein meal for me. All I do is change the herbs and spices that I add to keep the flavours changing so they never become boring.
